Shards III

I wrote Shards I, back in November 2004, to commemorate the 1,000th American combat death in Iraq. It is scored for bugle, electronic sound and amplified vocoder. I played it at the University of Alaska Anchorage in January, 2005.

Last summer, I wrote Shards II, to commemorate the 3,000th American combat death in Iraq. It expands on Shards II, by adding six performers - flute, alto saxophone, two trumpets, a trombone and a violoncello. We played it last August and September in Sitka, Juneau and Haines.

Sadly, I'm almost finished with Shards III, to commemorate the 4,000th American combat death in Iraq. It is scored for bugle, electronic sound, two trombones and vocoders. It will premiere on April 4 at UAA.
